Brief History of Xbox & Xbox 360 Game Consoles
Microsoft released the original Xbox on Nov 15, 2001 in North America and in early 2002 internationally. The PlayStation brand, which is owned by Sony Computer Entertainment, was first introduced in Japan in 1994. The PS3 was released on November 11, 2006 and numerically marks the 3rd version of the series. The PS3 can play Blu-ray Discs and supports full HD resolutions graphics. The PS3 game console supports 20GB through 320GB size capacities and like its predecessors was redesigned to be slimmer post initial release. PlayStation also has a strong footprint in the handheld market including the PlayStation Portable (PSP) and Vita. In 2006 PlayStation launched the PlayStation Network an online multiplayer gaming and digital media delivery system that serves both the PS3 and PSP consoles.
Brief History of the Nintendo Wii Game Console
The Wii, owned by Nintendo, was first released November 19, 2006. The concept however, was first conceived in 2001 when the GameCube was launching. The idea was to focus on a new type of player interaction, for a larger demographic, as opposed to simply targeting graphics and power.
